Compactly laid out, the 2.4 Liter 4-Cylinder, 16-Valve engine features high tech VVTi (Variable Valve Timing). Gone are the days when a home mechanic could take out his tool kit and work on the engine. Luckily, Toyota engines have proven so reliable that routine maintainance should be all the 4-Cylinder needs for the first 100,000 miles or so.
