Dodge’s lineup of sport utility vehicles and crossovers consists of the Nitro, the Journey and the Durango. All Dodge SUVs and crossovers get a 3 year/36,000 mile basic warranty that includes towing assistance, a lifetime/unlimited mile non-transferrable powertrain warranty and a 3 year/unlimited mile rust warranty.

Nitro

Nitro shares a platform with the Jeep Liberty. Introduced as a 2007 model, Nitro is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Available with a 3.7 liter V6 (210 hp/235 lb-ft of torque) or a 4.0 liter V6 in the souped-up R/T (260 hp/265 lb-ft of torque). Base prices start at $22,985 and go to $30,140, plus options. The EPA estimates Nitro’s fuel economy at 15 mpg city/21 mpg highway with four-wheel drive and 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive.

Journey

Journey is the latest addition to the Dodge SUV lineup, introduced as a 2009 model. A mid-size crossover with three rows of seating standard, Journey is more minivan than SUV. Available with a 2.4 liter inline 4-cylinder engine (173 hp/166 lb-ft of torque) or a 3.5 liter V6 engine (235 hp/232 lb-ft of torque), Journey is rated to deliver 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway with the I4, 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and the V6, 15 mpg city/22 mpg highway with the V6 and all-wheel drive. Base prices range from $21,600 to 28,260 plus options.

Durango

Durango shares a platform with the Chrysler Aspen. The Durango name first appeared on a midsize SUV in 1998, and on the current incarnation as a full-sized SUV in 2007. Durango is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Available with a 3.7 liter V6 (215 hp/235 lb-ft of torque), a 4.7 liter V8 (330 hp/303 lb-ft of torque), a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 (376 hp/401 lb-ft of torque) or a gas/electric hybrid system that includes a 5.7 liter HEMI V8 (399 hp/390 lb-ft of torque). Base prices start at $28,980 and go to $45,890, plus options. The EPA estimates Durango’s fuel economy at 13 mpg city/18 mpg highway up to 18 city/19 highway, depending on engine and drive configuration.
