The 2012 New York International Auto Show opened to the public from April 6 to April 15. As always, SUVs and crossover vehicles had a prominent role, with compact crossovers making the biggest splash.
The New York International Auto Show has the distinction of being the oldest auto show in North America, having debuted in 1900. Currently, the New York show marks the end of the North American auto show season, which starts off in November with the Los Angeles Auto Show, followed by Detroit in January and Chicago in February. New York is best known for the intense media coverage, as the worlds of Madison Avenue, Wall Street and Detroit collide. Many manufacturers choose to debut vehicles that are ready for the showroom here, rather than teasing with possible future product.
