Escape Hybrid meets American Idol
I'm going to go off-topic here for a minute, but just a little. Trust me, I'll bring it all back together.I'm not a fan of American Idol. I don't have a problem with reality television. I don't have a problem with talent competitions. I don't even have a problem with Paula, Randy and Simon. I just hate bad karaoke.
Here's my feeling: Show me that you can actually sing the song, hit the actual notes, and then, only then, can you start to add your flourishes. You want to be a professional singer, do your homework. Take vocal lessons. Learn some music theory. Train your voice, learn how to use your instrument. Then develop your own style. But showing off, singing around the notes, above and below the notes, that's not professional singing. That's karaoke singing.
What does this have to do with SUVs? Well, Ford invited me to an event this week. A ride and drive for the new Escape Hybrid. And the carrot on the stick is a seat in the audience at the finale of American Idol.
Guess what? I'm going to the ride-and-drive, and testing out the new Escape Hybrid. And then I'm going home. I'm skipping the show. The real show for me is the SUV.
Call me nuts, but I hate bad karaoke.
