2007 Mercury Mountaineer Premier AWD V8 Photo Gallery
A little bit of Mercury lore from the Fogelson Family. My dad's first car was a Mercury, a '48, I believe, a convertible coupe that he was very proud of. As a matter of fact, my Mom and Dad went on their first date in that Mercury, way back in 1956 or so. My Mom tells an indelicate story about their first date that validates her lifelong preference for convertibles, especially while traveling with my Dad. I'll spare you the fragrant details.
When I was in high school, my Dad had his second Mercury, a 1972 Cougar -- a convertible, of course. We all loved that car. I especially loved it in the wintertime. I'd drive it around during snow storms with the top down and the heater blasting, waving at all of our neighbors in ice-cold Rockford, Illinois. Oh, those were the days.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have nothing against Mercury -- in fact, I probably love the Mercury brand as much as any other. Who knows, I might not even be here today were it not for my Dad's cool '48 Mercury Convertible.
That's why this 2007 Mercury Mountaineer Premier AWD V8 Photo Gallery kind of depresses me. Not that the Mountaineer looks bad -- it doesn't. It just looks so much like an Explorer that it hardly qualifies as a Mercury.
Which leaves me mourning for our automotive heritage.
