2006 Jeep Liberty Limited CRD 4x4 Test Drive & Review
All over Europe right now, drivers are filling up with diesel fuel. Not truck drivers, car drivers. Diesel is a very popular fuel in Europe, thanks to a different set of regulations that make it easier for manufacturers to pass emissions standards than it is here in the US, and particularly in California. One of the side benefits of globalization is supposed to be technology that crosses borders to the economic benefit of both countries. DaimlerChrysler is a poster child for globalization, based in Germany and doing business around the world. Jeep, that most American of brands, is a division of DaimlerChrysler, and is starting to benefit from some of the European technology. Jeep has dipped its toes in the diesel, so to speak, with the 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD. "CRD" stands for "Common Rail Diesel," and it describes the design of the 4-cylinder engine you'll find under the hood of the Liberty CRD.
How does it work? Pretty well, with a few caveats. Read my review of the 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD to see what I mean.
