Sometimes things go right, sometimes things go wrong. SUV manufacturers have to deal with both possibilities.

For DaimlerChrysler, things have gone wrong with the 2003 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the same folks who publish the crash test ratings, have announced a recall on 2003 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees equipped with heated seats.

According to the recall document, "On certain sport utility vehicles equipped with heated seats, the front passenger seat electric heater element could overheat...Overheating could potentially cause a fire under."

That's a little more than you bargain for when you flip the switch on your heated seat. The recall will begin in July 2006, with dealers replacing the heated seat elements with new elements free of charge.

To find out if your 2003 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee is affected, contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
