2006 HUMMER H3 Test Drive and Review

General Motors recently announced that it would suspend production of the HUMMER H1 Alpha, the consumer version of their Humvee military vehicle. You've seen pictures of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's enormous forearm sticking out of the window of an H1, even if you haven't been crowded off the road by one of these behemoths.

Practical folk who like the look of the H1 but don't want to drop $100,000+ at the dealership to drive a diesel machine that gets single digit mpg now have a more sensible choice -- the sub $30,000 HUMMER H3. It's a mid-size SUV with HUMMER styling and GM mid-size SUV underpinnings. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed driving around in the H3, and how much attention it got on the road. Maybe HUMMER is on to something...
